New CCFOWR President Announcement

The Catholic Community Foundation of Waterloo Region (CCFOWR) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Christopher Gehan as the new president of the organization, beginning June 1, 2023. Chris will replace his long-standing predecessor, Vic Degutis.

Chris comes to the role with an extensive background in business finance and a strong sector background experience as past co-chair of the current Catholic Community Foundation of Waterloo Region board of directors, a past chair of the Waterloo Region Catholic Schools Foundation (WRCSF), a past president of the K-W Old Timers Hockey Club and past chair of the Finance Committee of the Cathedral of St. Theresa in Hamilton, Bermuda. He also shares his passion for sports as a volunteer football coach at St. Mary’s High School.

“I am very excited to continue my support of the Catholic community in Waterloo Region in this new role. My leadership style is very collaborative and hands-on. I look forward to engaging the community and supporting my exceptional colleagues on the CCFOWR board of directors,” states Gehan.

Vic Degutis, founding president of the Waterloo Region Catholic Schools Foundation, is proud of the evolution of the organization since 2002. “The key has been a vision and a board of directors determined to deliver this vision to make a difference in Waterloo Region’s Catholic schools,” shares Vic. He initially supported the Foundation through his role as CAO of the Waterloo Catholic District Board’s Research & Development Office and through his extensive community networks in the business, government and non-profit sectors.

In 2020, in a proactive move, the Waterloo Region Catholic Schools Foundation merged with the original Catholic Community Foundation of Waterloo Region. Vic continues,“The new merged organization has been a successful marriage and well received by the community with its grassroots and responsive approach. Chris will continue to move the CCFOWR forward on its evolution, supporting Catholic schools, families and the community- at-large.”

The board of directors is also happy to welcome our new Executive Administration Assistant to our team, Ms. Stephanie Medeiros.
